This course focuses on the role of admiralty jurisdiction in federal and state courts with regard to pleasure watercraft (e.g. jet skis, water skiing, sailboats, catamarans and commercial vehicles), specifically with regard to incidents in both intra- and interstate waterways. Topics include: The Inland Rules of the Road; the "saving to suitors" clause; and the crucial importance of the phrase "privity and knowledge." Includes discussion of recent relevant case law.
